This week, a workmate shared something that caught me off guard—news of my resignation had quietly made its way around the office. And not because I was transferring to another company, but because I was choosing to take a break. One person even commented, with a hint of awe, “She’s not moving to another job? She’s really just taking time off?”
All I could say was, “Yes. Let’s break the cycle.”
I didn’t hear the full story, but that small moment made me pause. Not because I’m proud or certain of everything ahead—but because I quietly hoped this decision would spark something in others. A little curiosity. A little wonder. And maybe, in some way, a little glimpse of God.
Called to Be the Light
Jesus said:
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden.”
— Matthew 5:14
I used to think that being a light meant having everything together. That I had to be strong, bold, consistent, and spiritually mature all the time. But the truth is, I’m still growing. I have my own flaws and struggles. I fall short of the person I want to be.
But recently, I realized this:
The light doesn’t depend on the candle.
It doesn’t matter if it’s a big candle, a scented one, a misshaped one, or a perfectly carved one—if it carries a flame, it can shine.
And so can we.
Even if your life feels messy. Even if you feel uncertain or imperfect. If you’re anchored in Christ, you still carry His light. That’s what gives us hope—and purpose.
The Faith Behind the Pause
I didn’t take this sabbatical because I had everything figured out—or because I had other sources of security lined up. In fact, if you’ve been following my journey, you’ll know I had doubts.
I chose this path not out of certainty, but out of conviction—through prayer, through wrestling, and through consistently seeking God’s leading. There were moments when I questioned if it was possible, but God provided—just enough, and right on time.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will.”
— Romans 12:2
The world tells us to keep hustling, to chase security, and to prove our worth through performance. But God invites us into something different: rest, trust, and alignment with Him.
This sabbatical may seem uncommon—and maybe even irrational to some. But it’s real. It’s raw. And it’s what God is doing in my life right now.
Preparing to Exit Well
As I approach my final week in this corporate role, I find myself preparing not just practically, but spiritually. I want to leave well. I want to honor the people I’ve worked with, the projects I’ve handled, and the relationships I’ve built.
But most of all, I want to reflect Christ.
Not through loud declarations, but through quiet obedience.
Not through perfection, but through peace.
My prayer is simple:
That somehow, in some way, someone will be led closer to God.
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
— Matthew 5:16
A Note From My Heart to Yours:
You don’t need to wait until you have it all together before you can shine.
You don’t need to be loud or dramatic to make an impact.
You just need to stay close to the Source of all light—Jesus.
Whether you’re in a season of clarity or confusion, momentum or pause—
God can use you. Right where you are. Just as you are.
Reflection Questions
In what ways can you be a light in your current environment—your workplace, home, or community?
What would it look like for you to make decisions not based on fear, but on faith?
Even when we don’t fully understand the story He’s writing, we can trust that God is always doing something meaningful.
So keep walking. Keep seeking. And keep shining.
Even dim light can guide someone home.
Faithfully,
Yani
