“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” – Matthew 6:33 (ESV)
This past week was a whirlwind.
A beautiful one.
A full one.
So full, in fact, that I didn’t get to write for three consecutive days—something I committed to during this sabbatical season. But I’m not here to shame myself. In fact, I’m here to share how God used those days of interruption to remind me what it really means to stay anchored in Him.
Last week, I celebrated my final day at work—a joyful and peaceful ending that reminded me of God’s faithfulness from start to finish. The days that followed were filled with time with my family, reunions, laughter, small adventures, and precious moments I didn’t want to miss.
It was a week of blessings, one after another. And I allowed myself to be interrupted by the good things.
Though my daily routine was disrupted,
I intentionally held on to one thing: My time with the Lord.
Even while I was surrounded by people and busyness, I carved out quiet moments to read scripture, pray, breathe in the morning air, and reflect on the goodness of God.
This week reminded me:
There will be days, or even weeks, when our routines won’t look perfect.
But if our hearts are set on seeking God first, we can still remain aligned, grounded, and full.
3 Ways to Stay Anchored in God in Busy or Disrupted Seasons:
These past few days reminded me that even when routines shift, we can still choose to stay anchored in God. It just takes a little more intention. So, if you ever find yourself in a season where your schedule is full, whether with challenges or even blessings, here are 3 simple ways I personally try to stay anchored in the Lord. Maybe these can help you, too.
1. Plan Ahead of Time
When you anticipate a busy week or a change in schedule (a trip, guests, events), take time to plan in advance. Think through:
- What time you’ll wake up
- Where you can have your quiet time
- What tools you might need (headphones, a journal, your Bible app, etc.)
We often feel off-balance when our routine suddenly changes, but intentional planning gives us peace and preparedness—even in the chaos. Most importantly, prepare your heart and surrender your plans to God ahead of time.
“Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.” – Proverbs 16:3 (NLT)
2. Seek God First—Before Anything Else
If you have a packed day ahead, start it with God. Prioritize your time with Him before the demands of the day take over.
Even if it means waking up 30 minutes earlier than usual, create that space.
When you seek God first, your heart is aligned, and your spirit is ready—regardless of what the day brings.
I remember a fellow Christian once said:
“Alignment first, before assignment.”
That truth still echoes in me today.
3. Step Outside—Find Your Quiet Place
If you’re sharing a space or traveling, scout a spot where you can be alone with God. Maybe it’s a café corner, a rooftop, a quiet bench nearby, or even just a balcony with a bit of sun.
Jesus often withdrew to the mountains to pray. He knew the power of undistracted time with the Father.
We can do the same—create sacred space, even in unexpected places.
“But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed.” – Luke 5:16 (NIV)
These are just a few strategies I’ve tried, but I’m still learning.
I’m currently thinking of setting intentional alarms during the day just to pause and pray, beyond the usual prayer cues (meals, bedtime, etc.). Just short breaks to breathe, reset, and invite God into the moment.
Because whether we’re in routine or in the rush, God honors our intentionality.
He sees your heart. He sees the effort.
Encouragement for You:
If you’ve had a week—or a season—where your rhythm was off and your schedule was full, you’re not alone.
You don’t have to be perfect to walk closely with God.
You just need to be present with Him.
Don’t give up just because you missed a few days.
Don’t stop seeking just because your routine was broken.
He is with you—interruptions and all.
Keep showing up.
Keep seeking.
Keep anchoring your soul in Him.
Reflection Questions:
- How do you usually respond when your routine gets interrupted?
- What’s one small change you can make to keep God first—even in busy seasons?
I’d love to hear your story! Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments or message me privately. Let’s grow together in faithfulness.
Faithfully,
Yani
