Over the past few days, I have found myself constantly contemplating God’s next assignment for me. For a while, I assumed it was entrepreneurship—especially because of the open door God seemed to place before me, the group I had recently discovered, and the constant call for focus due to the state of our café. Naturally, my mind began to race.
One afternoon, I started thinking about the café—possible solutions, strategies for growth, and potential paths forward. Very quickly, I became overwhelmed with the flood of ideas. My heart felt heavy, as though I had to carry all the plans on my shoulders.
But in the middle of the busyness of my thoughts, I caught myself. I paused. And in that still moment, I realized I had been trying to run ahead without realigning myself back to God.
I whispered to Him, “Lord, it seems to be so much work. Is this okay? Is this really what You want for me?”
That moment became a turning point. Instead of obsessing over ideas, steps, and business plans, I shifted my focus back to asking God for direction. Instead of running toward execution, I slowed down and chose prayer. Instead of striving, I asked Him to realign my heart with His will.
The Rest That Comes from Christ
In my quiet time, I presented my case before the Lord. I told Him how I felt, my fears, and my uncertainty about the next steps. And in His goodness, He reminded me of His words:
- “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)
- “Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” (John 14:27)
These were the same words Jesus spoke to His disciples as He prepared to leave them, promising His peace and presence even in the midst of uncertainty.
And I realized—what I was feeling was not unique. Every time God nudges us to move or assigns us something, it is easy to interpret it as a mission where we must carry the full responsibility alone. It can feel as though He gives us an assignment, hands us the tools, and then steps back, waiting for us to return with a perfect, completed mission report.
But that’s not the way of Jesus.
When I read His promises again—like in John 14:18–20 where He says, “I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you”—I remembered that He never sends us out alone. Our Lord is not a distant Master who only delegates tasks. He is the Shepherd who walks side by side with His sheep.
This truth lifted a heavy weight from my shoulders.
A Partnership with God
One of the verses God pressed into my heart was John 15:5:
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.”
These words reminded me that every mission or calling God entrusts to us is not meant to be done apart from Him. Sometimes, we treat His calling like a solved puzzle: “Thank You, Lord, I’ve got the answer. Now let me take it from here.” But Jesus’ invitation is different.
He doesn’t just want us to know the what. He wants us to walk with Him in the how.
Because no matter how successful our plans look on the outside, they will never satisfy without Him. We may achieve financial milestones, manage thriving businesses, or accomplish impressive projects—but if these things are done apart from Christ, they will leave us empty. Only Jesus can give lasting satisfaction.
What a comforting thought: that our Master not only partners with us but also carries the weight of the mission. He equips us so that our journey can be about more than results—it can be about relationship.
And perhaps the greatest encouragement is this: God does not choose us based on the outcome of our assignments. He has already chosen us, long before we could prove ourselves. What He desires is not our flawless performance but our faithful obedience.
Guarding Peace in the Process
As I continue to plan and pray, I’ve learned that the most important posture is to guard the peace of Christ in my heart. When my thoughts begin to swirl with “grand ideas” and overwhelming scenarios, I take it as a gentle signal from the Holy Spirit to step back again and realign myself with Him.
It’s a discipline I’m still learning: to pause, to breathe, to surrender the tendency to over-strive.
Paul reminds us in Philippians 4:6–7:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
This verse has become my anchor. It reminds me that I don’t need to force clarity or outcomes. God’s peace is not dependent on my performance but on His faithful presence.
And when the pressure of entrepreneurship or investment feels heavy, I remember: the greatest mission has already been finished—Christ has saved us from sin. Everything else is simply a response of gratitude and stewardship.
A New Perspective: Not Just Entrepreneur, but Investor
Recently, I finished reading the book Faith Driven Entrepreneur, and I’ve also been preparing to meet a Christian entrepreneur group in the coming days. These have been sources of inspiration, but even more than that, God has been shifting my perspective.
At first, I thought my calling was purely to be an entrepreneur. But the more I reflected, the more I sensed God showing me another angle: not only to be an entrepreneur, but ultimately, as an investor.
Like in the parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14–30), God reminded me that everything I have—resources, skills, knowledge, even time—is entrusted to me to be multiplied for His kingdom. My role is to steward these things faithfully and to invest them wisely.
This reframing has been liberating.
For example, when I think about our café, I realize I may not be called to be the day-to-day manager in the grind of operations. But that doesn’t mean I am excluded. God may be calling me to invest in it, to use my skills and resources to help it grow, while allowing others to handle the daily management.
That subtle but significant shift—from manager to investor—aligns better with the gifts God has given me. It also helps me see beyond just one business. Perhaps God is preparing me to be an investor in multiple areas, even in small beginnings, with the mindset of stewardship rather than ownership.
The thought excites me, but more importantly, it gives me peace.
“Commit to the Lord Whatever You Do”
During this season, one verse has been echoing in my heart:
“Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.” (Proverbs 16:3)
I’ve been repeating and dissecting this verse daily, and God continues to reveal its depth.
Our role is to commit—to give our best in whatever God has entrusted us to do. But the result? That’s not for us to control. The results are God’s domain.
Paul reinforces this in 1 Corinthians 3:7:
“So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.”
We plant, we water, we labor—but only God brings the growth. Only God determines success in the way that truly matters.
This truth sets us free. We don’t have to carry the unbearable weight of outcomes. Instead, we can enjoy the journey, knowing that our obedience pleases God regardless of visible results.
I imagine myself presenting my assignment to God one day, saying:
“Lord, here it is. I did my best to make it beautiful. I poured my time and resources into it. Now I give it back to You. Do with it what You will. At the end of the day, this belongs to You—and so do I.”
That surrender is where peace is found.
Final Reflections
As I walk through this season of discernment, I’m learning to rest in God’s companionship. He is not asking me to figure everything out on my own. He is not grading my results. He is inviting me to walk with Him in trust, step by step.
Entrepreneurship may still be part of His plan. So may investing. But more than the label, the real assignment is faithfulness—to steward what He has given me, to remain in Him, and to trust that He will establish the plans.
And so, my prayer today is this:
“Lord, help me steward well the café, my resources, my skills, and my life. Teach me to be an investor in Your kingdom. Protect me from striving, and keep me anchored in Your peace. Let everything I do be for Your glory, and remind me daily that You are with me, side by side.”
For anyone reading who is also discerning your next assignment—whether in business, career, ministry, or family life—may you be reminded of this truth:
You don’t carry the mission alone. God is with you, and His peace will guard your heart as you trust Him.
Faithfully,
Yani 💛
