Have you ever felt that unexplainable pain in your heart — the kind that lingers deep inside, even when everything around you seems perfectly fine?
It’s the ache that quietly sits with you even when you’re surrounded by people. The kind of sadness that doesn’t always have a clear reason. You can’t quite name it, but you feel it — in your chest, in your breath, in the quiet moments when the world slows down.
Maybe it’s the pain of a broken heart.
Maybe it’s the weight of disappointment.
Maybe it’s grief, loss, or just the deep loneliness that creeps in unexpectedly.
It’s that moment when everything looks the same — the sky is still blue, your day still unfolds as usual — yet something inside feels different. Empty. Colorless. Like the ache has taken over all the colors of your world.
I’ve been there.
And every time, I find myself doing the same thing.
I run.
I run back to my Father.
1. When Pain Feels Unbearable: The Human Tendency to Hide
Not all days in life will be bright and full of joy. Some days will feel unbearably heavy — and that’s okay.
When pain becomes too much, our natural instinct is to hide. To withdraw. To bury ourselves in busyness or distractions. Sometimes, we even try to numb it — pretending everything’s fine while quietly suffocating inside.
Before I knew Christ deeply, I used to be that independent person who tried to handle everything on my own. I thought strength meant silence — that if I just endured quietly, the pain would eventually fade away.
But pain doesn’t just disappear when ignored. It sits there, waiting to be brought into the light.
And when I finally started to know Jesus, everything changed. I went from being the “strong” one who carried everything alone to becoming a child who runs to her Father.
Now, when the pain becomes too much to bear, I don’t hide anymore. I come to Him.
I cry.
I surrender.
I let myself be held by the One who sees me, knows me, and loves me completely.
Psalm 34:18 says:
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
God doesn’t ask us to carry the pain alone. He invites us to bring it to Him — every fear, every disappointment, every question we don’t have answers for.
When we run to Him, we aren’t escaping reality; we’re running into Truth.
The truth that we are not alone. The truth that even in our pain, we are deeply loved.
2. When People Can’t Fill the Gaps, God Can
One of the hardest realities I’ve learned is this: not everyone around us will understand the depth of our pain.
Even the people who love us the most — family, friends, mentors — they have limits. Not because they don’t care, but because they’re human too.
Their understanding can only go so far, their presence can’t always be constant, and their comfort can’t always satisfy the ache.
That used to make me feel lonely. But the more I grew in my relationship with Christ, the more I realized that these moments of loneliness can actually draw us closer to Him.
Because only God can truly fill the gaps between what others can give and what our hearts truly need.
Psalm 139:1-4 says:
“You have searched me, Lord, and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways.”
God knows the exact weight of your pain — even the parts you can’t explain. He understands every tear that falls, even the silent ones.
When you feel unseen by people, remember: you are fully seen by Him.
When you feel unheard, He listens.
When you feel unloved, His love reaches deeper than your pain.
He is the friend who never leaves. The Father who never fails.
3. Running Back to the Father: Learning to Rest in His Arms
Over the years, I’ve brought so much before God — my pain, my confusion, my dreams, my questions, my disappointments. And every time, He meets me there.
I’ve cried to Him in moments of heartbreak.
I’ve knelt before Him in moments of defeat.
And I’ve found myself carried when I no longer had the strength to walk.
Jesus has shown me time and again that He is my faithful Friend — the One who died for me, carried my burdens, and continues to love me even in my weakness.
And though I can’t always explain how He does it, I can tell you this: His presence brings a peace that surpasses understanding.
When I run to the Father, I find:
- Love that reminds me I am not defined by my pain.
- Acceptance that tells me I don’t have to have it all together.
- Grace that covers the moments I fail.
- Forgiveness that restores my hope.
- Care that assures me I’m never forgotten.
- Peace that calms the chaos inside.
This is what it means to be held by God.
He doesn’t promise that pain will disappear instantly, but He promises to stay with us through it.
And somehow, His presence transforms even the deepest wounds into something sacred — a place of encounter, healing, and growth.
When You Don’t Know What to Do
If you’re reading this and feeling that same unexplainable ache — maybe the kind that words can’t capture — I want you to know that you’re not alone.
You don’t have to fix it. You don’t have to understand it.
You just have to run.
Run to the Father.
You can start right where you are — in your room, in your car, in your tears. Whisper His name. Tell Him everything you’re feeling. You don’t even need fancy words. Just honesty.
Sometimes the prayer is simply:
“Lord, it hurts. But I know You’re here.”
And that’s enough.
Because He is there — in the stillness, in the silence, in the ache that no one else sees.
A Heart That Heals in His Presence
Over time, I’ve realized that pain doesn’t mean God has left me. In fact, pain often becomes the space where I meet Him more deeply.
When my heart breaks, He draws closer. When my strength fades, His grace shines stronger. When everything feels uncertain, His love anchors me again.
The truth is, we all go through seasons of heartache — but every tear we bring to Him becomes a seed for healing.
Isaiah 61:3 reminds us that God gives:
“Beauty for ashes, joy for mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.”
He doesn’t waste pain. He redeems it.
He transforms it into something that draws us nearer to His heart.
Final Thoughts
Friend, if your heart feels heavy today — if you’re carrying pain that you can’t put into words — please know this: you don’t have to carry it alone.
There’s a safe place waiting for you.
A refuge stronger than your storm.
A Father whose arms are always open.
So when the ache returns, when loneliness whispers, when the tears fall for no reason — run. Run back to the Father.
And when you do, you’ll find that even in the middle of your pain, you are deeply loved, fully known, and never alone.
Encouragement to Hold Onto
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28
Even when life feels colorless, His love remains constant.
He is the Light that never fades, the Comfort that never leaves, and the Father who always welcomes you home.
