“So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
— 1 Corinthians 10:31 NLT
A Surprising Encounter at the Gym
Yesterday morning felt like any ordinary sabbatical day. I followed my usual rhythm—morning walk, Bible reading, quiet time with the Lord, and a good run at the gym. My sister had just gifted me a new set of workout clothes, and I was especially grateful. With worship music in my ears and focus in my heart, I began my workout, zoned in on planks, squats, and movement.
Then something unexpected happened.
While cooling down in the lobby after my run, a woman approached me.
“Excuse me, Miss,” she said. “Just want to ask—how do you do your workout for your core? I saw you earlier and I told myself, ‘I admire her, I want to ask her.’”
I froze for a second. No one had ever asked me that before. I stuttered a little but replied, “Oh… I usually just run regularly.” She asked more specific questions about targeting the core, and I explained as best I could: “Some planks, a few squats—but mostly I just run.”
We ended up having a lovely conversation. She introduced herself as Dra. L, a nutritionist. She offered to check on my health and even invited me to stay at her place in Baguio if ever I visited. We exchanged numbers, and I walked away feeling stunned—but also deeply moved.
A Gentle Reminder from God
Later that day, I texted her a message to clarify what I actually do for fitness—not as an expert, but simply to encourage. I told her how I run and exercise not just for the physical benefits, but to care for my mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. I shared how my goal is wholeness, not appearance. And I made sure to encourage her in return—especially admiring her dedication to staying fit at 51.
But as I reflected on the moment, I realized something deeper:
Even our most ordinary routines—like working out—can be used by God for eternal purposes.
I didn’t expect to meet anyone that day. I didn’t plan for ministry at the gym. But God reminded me: our lives are always speaking. Whether we know it or not, people are watching how we live, move, and interact. And sometimes, that opens the door to share hope, encouragement, or even Christ Himself.
You Are Always Representing Someone
“So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us.”
— 2 Corinthians 5:20 (NLT)
That verse rang in my head later that night.
I’m not a fitness coach. I’m not a health expert. But I am a follower of Christ. And in every space—even in sweat and running shoes—I am an ambassador of His love. That thought made me both grateful and more intentional. Because even when I feel weak or unseen, God is strong and always working.
What I Learned (and Want to Keep Remembering)
- We are always influencing—sometimes without knowing it.
- Simple routines can become divine appointments.
- Our health matters not just for us, but for how we show up for others.
- When we live with intention, God turns the ordinary into opportunities.
Reflection Questions
- Where in your routine might God be preparing a divine appointment?
- Are there “ordinary” parts of your life that could become a witness to others?
- How can you be more intentional in representing Christ—through words, attitude, or daily choices?
A Final Encouragement
You may think your life is quiet, simple, or unseen. But someone’s watching. And your presence, posture, and even your exercise may be planting seeds.
Let your life be a vessel—whether in rest or in reps, in silence or in speech.
In weakness, He is your strength. In strength, He is your source.
And in every moment, He is worthy of glory.
So go run. Go rest. Go live with intention.
Because your life might just lead someone home.
Faithfully,
Yani 💛
